In the past few decades, the population of the Netherlands has grown significantly. This becomes especially obvious when you take a closer look at the housing stock in Amsterdam. In this municipality, the number of inhabitants has grown from 821.000 in 2015 to over 863.000 at the start of this year. This has led to a serious housing shortage, which has now spread to the nearby Nieuwendam. This previously independent town in the northern part of the city is a beloved home base for people working in the centre. This means you can easily reach both different parts of the city and other cities in the Randstad. In addition to that, there’s also not much to complain about the local public transportation.
